Sour Cream and Onion Cashews
One of the biggest temptations in the food world are sour cream and onion potato chips. With a bowl of these sour cream and onion cashews at your side, you may never crave carb-loaded snacks again! They’re low carb, gluten-free, and full of crunch and flavor.
Did you know that cashew nuts are actually not a nut at all? It’s true! They’re a seed that’s found on the end of a cashew apple. Those apples are a nutrient-rich fruit that are grown close to the equator in South America. They’re too fragile to export to North America or Europe, so the nuts are harvested and shipped from there.
In addition to being tasty and incredibly addictive, cashews have 5 grams of protein per ounce and high levels of the essential minerals iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper and manganese, all of which should be part of any healthy diet. There are a whopping 12 grams of fat per ounce, so as tasty as these sour cream and onion cashews are, portion control would be recommended.
Of course, indulgence in moderation is good, too.
- 2 cups cashews
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt (if cashews are unsalted)
- Drizzle olive oil over cashews and mix until covered.
- Toss in seasonings to cashews until evenly covered.
- Store in airtight container.

Why are they called sour cream? I don’t see it as an ingredient

These look awesome. Have you seen what’s in the jars of flavored cashews at the grocery store? They are filled with all kinds of junk. I will have to try these. I’d be snacking on these all day lol

The processed chemicals are downright scary, aren’t they Dave? We hope you enjoy this recipe!

I agree, Dave. It’s amazing what’s hidden in what should be a basic jar of roasted nuts. Andres and I hope that you enjoy the recipe.
